Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of a UK General Election on 4 July, YMCA England & Wales is mobilising to ensure young people’s voices are heard. Encouraging young people to register to vote between now and election day will be absolutely critical.

What’s your Y?

Now that the register to vote deadline has passed, we now move to encouraging young people to vote on election day. We are focusing this around “What’s your Y?” asking young people to think about they why want to vote.

What’s the point of voting? This can often be the response many people give to voting and to be honest, for young people, where policies and politicians don’t exactly represent them, you can understand why. What we want to do is change that thinking. We want young people to think about their Y. Why will they vote? This could be because they care about housing, or youth services or mental health but helping them to understand their Y will help give them a reason to vote.
